Listen to "Summertime" and other songs by the famous jazz and blues musician Charlie Parker while you answer these questions. This will get you in the mood that the pool players were in-just don't skip school.

1.-The word Jazz means mock the establishment.

3.-When the author wrote this poem perhaps was thinking of young people, who choose the easier path of either the drug or alcohol and leave everything abandoned either his family or school.
4.-I think if as it is related to real life and if younger will read the poem perhaps would know to choose a good path for the future and if you have dreams you have to meet them.
5.- Yes, it talks about a school dropout and do bad things and if they had not cmplieron dreams that died.

Most of you got the assignment partially correct, and as you listened over and over you were able to understand her message (and English voice and accent) better.
"Jazz" meant music at first but "jazz June " meant to mock the establishment. She represents the establishment by the month of June-a lovely time of year. Some people banned the poem because they thought it was a sexual reference-which makes her laugh.
The one answer you all got wrong was #4-The poet was not happy that this poem is so popular because she had written so many other poems but she is only known for this one.
And yes, it's irony.
